Doran Road construction, backyard chickens top of mind for Mayor Allen

Remembrance Day

Although public Remembrance Day Ceremonies will not be held in Springwater this year, I urge you to take some time on November 11 to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many, so that we can experience the freedoms we have today. The Township has partnered with the Elmvale BIA and the Elmvale legion to create street banners highlighting some of the local men and women who fought for our freedoms. Take some time to visit downtown Elmvale and see the pictures of these brave individuals. The banners will be up throughout the month of November. If you typically attend a ceremony at Springwater Park, there will be no formal ceremony this year, but the crosses and wreathes will be set-up for anyone wishing to pay their respects while socially distancing throughout the day.

Backyard Chickens – Update

In early 2020, Council directed staff to undertake a limited ‘Backyard Chicken’ pilot project after extensive public consultation. As a next step, Council has passed a temporary use by-law, which will allow for a three (3) year pilot program for the keeping of Backyard Chickens within the Township of Springwater. The temporary use by-law

was passed by Council on October 7, and the pilot program will commence once a licensing by-law for Backyard Chickens is presented and approved. Additional information can be found on the Township’s website at www.springwater.ca/backyardchickens.

Doran Road Construction

Doran Road construction will be wrapping up this month. Weather permitting, asphalt will be laid during the first week of November and site clean-up and restoration will take place the following week. The work included some storm sewers to improve drainage, parking in front of the school, wider lanes, new granular and asphalt. Thank you to our

residents for your patience as this project moved forward.

Elmvale & District Food Bank

The finishing touches are going on the new Elmvale & District Food Bank location at 62 Yonge St N. The new location will provide ample parking, privacy, convenience for residents of Elmvale and a nearby bus stop for those travelling from outlying communities. The food bank is moving in their non-perishable items shortly and expect

to begin receiving clients at the new location within the next couple of weeks. The Township is proud to have partnered on this initiative and support the important work the Food Bank is doing in our community. As our thoughts turn to the busy holiday season, I encourage you to make a donation to the Elmvale & District Food Bank and help them stock their new shelves.
